Explaining the Economic Consequences

Working for a Member of Congress offers staff an opportunity to do lots of reading and research. Congressman Conaway’s staff looks high and low for articles and sources that will help him make good decisions on the bills that come before him in Congress.

Below is the link to an article that appears in the summer issue of City Journal. The article summarizes some of the most important, broadly held ideas in economics. These ideas are the closest to “truths” that the field of economics may ever come.

As Congress has begun spending more and more time bashing oil companies, vilifying investors, bailing out failed companies, and piling up debt, it is vital that all Americans understand the consequences of such actions. Economics can do a pretty good job of explaining these consequences, if we take the time to do our homework.
