Mike’s statement on troop withdrawl from Iraq

Mike spoke today on the need to stand up for Democracy in Iraq. See his comments below. Austin Weatherford–Staff Assistant for Rep. Mike Conaway

“Prematurely withdrawing military troops from Iraq is wrongheaded at best and dangerous at worst. Members of Congress who voted for the authorization of military force have a responsibility to the American people to see this war through to victory. Early military withdrawal from Iraq would be a crushing blow to the United States’ efforts to effectively fight and win the War on Terror. Cutting and running is not the answer and is a direct disincentive for the Iraqi people to continue defending their country. In fact, withdrawing from Iraq now would only solidify the resolve of the insurgency, leave the Iraqis at a severe disadvantage and prove to our enemy in the War on Terror that America’s resolve is weak.”—Mike Conaway
